Python Job: Student Assistant* Python Developer

The Photonics Networks and Systems Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications (Heinrich Hertz Institute) is currently involved in several research projects focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and edge computing topics; specifically, focusing on federated learning mechanism applied in the context of telecom and industry 4.0 applications.

What you will do

• We are looking for a motivated student assistant to contribute to the design and the development of our evolving software packages.
• Contribution to the design and development of our software packages
• Continuous maintenance and troubleshooting of our software solutions
• Attending the dedicated development team meetings

What you bring to the table

• Full-time students of electrical engineering, physics or communications engineering with good to very good grades
• Advanced/intermediate Python programming skills
• familiar with Linux shell scripting
• fluent in English (verbal and written)

In addition, having any of the following skills would be highly desirable:

• familiar with machine learning, data science, deep learning concepts
• familiar with PyTorch/Tensorflow
• familiar with the software development and prototyping life cycle
• familiar with containerization concept and tools such as Docker
• familiar with any other development language/framework such as Java, JavaScript, Angular, Spring Boot Java, SQL/noSQL, Restful Web Services, etc.

The monthly working time is up to 80 hours. The position is initially limited to 6 months.
